Teaching Plan Design Competition on Disaster Education in Kindergartens

Guidelines

Eligibility

  • Participants should be teachers of kindergarten (Teaching assistants & specialist teachers are also eligible) in Hong Kong.
  • Participants should enrol using the online application form at our official website designated for the Competition, providing details such as name, contact number, email address, first four digits of the HKID number and the name of kindergartens in which they serve.
  • Teaching plans to be submitted should be:
    • original works by the participant, with contents and relevant teaching materials which do NOT include images, music, audio or video recordings that are protected by copyright;
    • appropriate for teaching children aged 3 to 6;
    • designed either for face-to-face tuition (Group A) or online learning (Group B) for disaster preparedness; and
    • cover at least two of the six learning areas suggested in the《Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide》issued by the Education Bureau.
Personal Information Collection Statement
  • The participants understand and agree that when entering the competition and upon the subsequent announcement of winners and notice of award collection, HKJCDPRI would collect or solicit from them their personal data, including information uploaded to the designated website for the Competition, their names in English and Chinese, mailing addresses and phone numbers, for the purpose of progressing, managing and completing all procedures and matters relating to the Competition. To this end, participants understand and agree that HKJCDPRI and its authorised personnel may use, disclose or transfer such personal data for the above purposes or any other purposes directly related thereto or in circumstances permitted under the laws of Hong Kong.
  • Participants fully understand and agree that transmission of information via the internet falls outside the control of HKJCDPRI. Hence, there is no guarantee for [such transmission] to stay absolutely secure and confidential or free from theft by third parties through illegal means on the internet. Participants agree and acknowledge that HKJCDPRI should not be held liable for the security of their personal data. However, HKJCDPRI should, upon successful receipt of personal data from participants, store such data in a proper manner and to implement on such data the best security measure known to and within the reasonable control of HKJCDPRI, to prevent leakage of participants’ data as far as possible.

Judging criteria

The teaching plan fits in with the disaster education theme. Teaching activities in the plan are well-designed to bring forth knowledge of disaster preparedness, response and/or recovery.
The learning objectives cater to the needs of child development and integrate with different learning areas, with a view to strengthening critical thinking, problem-solving and emotional management among young children.
Teaching activities of the plan are interactive and inspiring, delivering fun and interaction that draw children’s attention to the learning theme.
The teaching tools designed are creative and effective in reinforcing children’s learning experience in disaster education.
The teaching plan makes use of community resources to enrich the teaching and learning experience, thereby enabling Home-school-community collaboration in delivering disaster education for young children.

Submission

  • Each participant may submit a maximum of two teaching plans via the official website designated for the Competition using the template provided by the organisers.
  • The teaching plan, which can be written either in English or Chinese, should focus on ways to facilitate the prevention, preparedness, response and/or recovery of any kind of disasters.
  • Resources necessary for the teaching plans should be clearly listed, and if any reference readings or preview materials are required before implementation, these should also be listed clearly on a reference list.
  • Submitted teaching plans will not be returned. Please keep your own copy before submission.
  • By joining the Competition, participants agree to authorize the organisers to publish their submissions. Teaching plans from all winners and participants may be compiled in an album to be distributed to all kindergartens in Hong Kong.
  • The organisers shall not be liable for the failure of any participant to enter the Competition successfully as a result of submission deadline being missed or the loss or transmission error of submissions due to technical issues arising from the use of computer or the internet or any unforeseeable circumstances.
  • By filing the enrolment form and entering the Competition, participants agree to accept all of the above conditions. The HKJCDPRI has full authority to remove any participant from the Competition in the event of breaching of such conditions.
  • The HKJCDPRI reserves the right to a final decision over any disputes and to revise the conditions for participation.

Deadline

  • The deadline for submission of teaching plans is 6:30pm, 30 May 2021 (Sunday).

Judging panel

  • The judging panel mainly consists of academics and experienced industry practitioners in early childhood education.
  • The decision of the judging panel shall be final in respect of review of submissions.

Results announcement

  • Results will be announced in July 2021 at the official website. All awardees will be individually informed of the details of the award presentation and prize collection.
